The first of two one-hour documentaries on The Byrds, the continuously groundbreaking band who bridged the gaps between The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, the Beach Boys, the Los Angeles psychedelic underground and classic country. Their memorable music set the stage for everyone from the Eagles to Tom Petty to R.E.M. Each hour is hosted by singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell, and covers a distinct period of their prolific history that can either be aired as one two-part series, or as your choice of two insightful one-hour programs.

THERE IS A SEASON covers 1964-1967, the all-too-brief hitmaking years of the Byrds' original five members - Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Gene Clark and Michael Clarke. They were an electrified folk band who topped the charts with some of the decades' most innovative singles and albums. By 1967, their musical harmony was engulfed by the off-stage disharmony that pushed them to reach those heights. Instead of being directed by the singular vision of one leader, The Byrds were consistently led by everybody's contributions - from their original five members to the musicians involved with their later years.

Despite the inner turmoil that resulted in a revolving cast of characters, the Byrds always used those changes as opportunities to further their musical evolution. "They all brought something new and something defining," says journalist David Fricke, "and it all became part of the Byrds sound. They didn't change the Byrds to the degree that it changed the sound. What they did became the Byrds."

Both segments feature the wide range of music that made The Byrds of the 60s most influential bands, along with comments by its two longest-lasting members: Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman. Writers David Fricke, Anthony DeCurtis, Lenny Kaye and Byrds historian Sid Griffin are also interviewed.

It’s not easy for any successful band to re-invent themselves. In the early 1990s, U2 learned this the hard way, when their attempts to follow up the anthemic rock of The Joshua Tree and the blues-tinged Rattle & Hum with something totally different.  The process nearly broke up the band, but also took them where they needed to be to reconstruct the band piece by piece, and create music like they've never made before.  "What we did," says U2 front-man Bono,  "was we broke up that band and formed another one, but with the same people…I think we all recognize that making Achtung Baby was the reason we’re still here now."

In this one-hour special, comments by all four U2 members (Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr) tell the story of their November 1991 release, Achtung Baby,  its songs like "Mysterious Ways," "One," "Even Better than the Real Thing" and the subsequent tours that redefined both how U2 would be perceived by the world and themselves.  These rare, insightful interviews are provided by filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (It Might Get Loud, An Inconvenient Truth), from the footage of his acclaimed 2011 documentary, U2 From the Sky Down.

Since 2004, Jack Johnson has hosted annual concerts in Hawaii featuring his musician friends to raise money for the Kokua Foundation he and his wife created to support environmental education programs. This one hour radio special features the best, one-of-a-kind collaborations from past festivals.

It took 8 years for some of the music to come out officially, but in that time, the legend of The Basement Tapes grew. Bootlegs were passed around, little hints of the bigger treasure that existed somewhere.

SLY & THE FAMILY STONE: FAMILY AFFAIR. One-hour music intensive radio documentary about Sly & the Family Stone, their music, their turbulent history, and the indelible marks they left behind. Seven musicians walked on the stage, some were black, some white, some were men, some women, and all of them were dressed in bright, colorful outfits.

That was Sly and the Family Stone, and for seven wild years (1967-1974), they left a mark on music and culture that continues to inspire countless musicians - both black and white. Members changed, times got rough, but Sly and the Family Stone's sound and message of love and unity still speaks to the world today.

FAMILY AFFAIR is hosted by Ben Fong-Torres, and includes a wide range of Sly & the Family Stone tracks - from the big hits ("Dance to the Music," Everyday People," and others) to deep cuts from all their albums. Some songs accentuate the points made by the many interview subjects, others speak for themselves. All of them stand up as examples of Sly Stone's "watershed point in the development of rhythm and blues," as detailed by biographer and journalist Joel Selvin.

Band members Rose Stone, Larry Graham, Greg Errico and Andy Newmark provide rarely-heard, first-hand accounts of the zeniths and nadirs of Sly Stone's universe, taking us from their family roots to their mainstream success to later sessions "surrounded by really crazy people...out there in the twilight zone."

Musicians Isaac Hayes and Chuck D, however, break down how music from all those episodes influenced Sly's contemporaries as well as future generations of musicians.
