From PRX | 52:00

"America, Learn Your History" began as a popular Instagram series by composer and professor Bobby Wooten. Join us for our first radio special: Stonewall often gets credit for the beginning of the gay liberation movement. But there was an earlier riot, at Compton's Cafeteria in San Francisco, and it was started by a transwoman. Bobby's guests include actor Tituss Burgess and historian Dr. Susan Stryker.

From KSFR | Part of the Here And There with Dave Marash series | 51:58

The mass murder of 22 innocent shoppers at Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, TX, is an awful event in itself. But it’s also part of a long and awful history of violent attacks by White Men on Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in Texas. Russell Contreras of the Associated Press has traced that history and the new movement to expose and push back against it.

Singing the Difficult & the Devastaing

Broadway composers are no strangers to writing difficult, intricate, dynamic, hard-to-sing songs. And writing others that will make you cry your eyes out is their specialty. Emotionally devastating songs can do that.
On this edition of Broadway Bound we look at both the most difficult Broadway songs to sing and those that can rip your heart out. Some of the greatest Broadway stars show us how they handle the hard ones with deceptive ease, and then conjure up devastating emotion on the heartbreakers.
Bernadette Peters, Dorothy Louden, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Robert Preston, Barbara Cook and Barbra Streisand are among the masters. Get ready to laugh, cry, and be amazed.
