A note about programming:
Modern Notebook features mission-driven programming focused on sharing great music by living composers, especially composers from historically underrepresented backgrounds. There are two important considerations when curating the show: composer uniqueness (sharing music by as many different composers as possible) and composer diversity.

In the year 2021, Modern Notebook has featured 257 unique composers across 52 weeks of programming (two hours per week). As of September 2022, there have been 261 unique composers featured on the program.

Likewise, in the year 2021, 47% of Modern Notebook programming featured diverse (i.e., non-white) composers and 58% of programming featured female, non-binary, and transgender composers; and as of September 2022, 51% of composers featured have been diverse and 56% have been female, non-binary, or transgender individuals.

Creating representative programming is integral to Modern Notebook's mission, and efforts are made at every level to offer an equitable platform to artists of all kinds.

*Modern Notebook is available as a 1- or 2-hour program.*

The show is offered in either a 1-hour format [the first hour generally includes more pieces, about 7, and is intended to fit well within a typical “sound” of a classical music station] or a 2-hour format [the second hour includes a second hour with longer pieces, some up to 30+ minutes, or utilizes more unconventional sounds, within the classical context]. Each hour features one :60 floating cutaway and one :60 fixed cutaway at :59.

It is recommended that if you choose to carry just one hour, you should carry the first hour each week.
